FINAL PROJECT (take 2)
CD
Labyrinthe –
My CD rom is an art piece that is to be used when walking. When the CD starts, get up and follow the directions in the songs if you can hear it. If you can not (the sounds are hidden, overlapped, etc) on the back of the jewel case the song titles also tell you what was said– the directions.

Final Project {ponderings+inspirations}
inspired by:
and
The two examples above show a story that plays with time in the sense that it is broken up frame by frame confusing the eyes, but basically is a short video that follows some sort of order.
The next video messes with the time format of the story. Like the previous videos, the subject is creative and transformative stop motion. Unlike the above, the cuts jump around and don't always make logical sense.
(i.e. cutting the butter; one slice with the knife and we suddenly have 5 pieces.)
Also this is cute and funny to use house hold objects and do a voice over:

Proposal
Inspiration~~~
I was thinking of using video as an orifice for my explanation of a labyrinth. I want to have someone chewing gum, blowing a bubble, and having it pop, but have the sound be off-track.
At first, this will seem just like the video is lagging, but then the person in the video will react to the sound effects, acting confused and disoriented, trying to blow their bubble again and again with further sound distortions.
I plan on doing this layout of video/sound with a couple different scenarios, then for the final presentation having it be a room full of theses videos, with the sound all going off at once, like each video is reacting another. Overall effect very confusing and stimulating. Maybe I will use a bunch of televisions, or just have all of the videos projected on the walls.
I found some sound clips that I can layer together to create the audio effects that I want to achieve.

I hope to hone my skills at video filming and editing that I have learned with our last project, and create something that fully gets my point across as well as encompassing the requirements of the course and pulling in final presentation as much as thoughtfulness in the project itself.

LABYRINTH ~~
LABYRINTH
Excerpt from Borges' The Circular Ruins:
"At first, his dreams were chaotic; a little
later, they became dialectical. The foreigner
dreamed that he was in the center of a circular
amphitheater, which was somehow the ruined
temple; clouds of taciturn students completely
filled the terraces of seats. The faces of those
farthest away hung at many centuries' distance
and at a cosmic height, yet they were absolutely
clear. The man lectured on anatomy, cosmography, magic; the faces listened
earnestly, intently, and attempted to respond
with understanding—as though they sensed the
importance of that education that would
redeem one of them from his state of hollow
appearance and insert him into the real world.
The man, both in sleep and when awake,
pondered his phantasms' answers; he did not
allow himself to be taken in by impostors, and
he sensed in certain perplexities a growing
intelligence. He was seeking a soul worthy of
taking its place in the universe. "
I think there's an interesting path here between the idea of one's life on earth, one's life inside his own dreams, and one's life in it's full prospect- what we will to become.
He dreamed of life. He dreamed up life.

"To speak is to commit tautologies."
These ideas of linear and non linear time- like also the stories we read, kept going in circles. A labyrinth is some place 'moment' where you find yourself in circles. Tripping on Mushrooms is very much like this. I always find my mind/situation going in circles. Life is a circle. I find circles to be heavily meaningful in life and have been shown again through schooling / growth, personally.

documentair
1- Create a Statement or Treatment .
LSD soaked cheese is being sold by the pound at Whole foods, and it's on sale! How did this happen? View inside evidence of humans infected- Tune in to The News coming up next.
Inside evidence: a camera filming the group of infected persons, REAL because they will have to do a project so they have a camera filming at all times. FAKE because we zoom in and have different camera angles (something a camera set up in the corner for a project couldn't do.)
This perspective takes the viewer through our thought process as well as a complete storyline with all strings attached. Overall someone is watching the news and it’s about a cheese outbreak that grew LSD, and the catch is that the tv viewer's friend just ate some.
2-Create a list of Priority Elements in the documentary
This should include opening, context of theme, interviews, supporting information, moment of culmination and ending.
Script: From the beginning- living room, man's voice from out of shot, looking at Tv. "Honey you have to try this { new cheese}!" very enthusiastically, surprised, unknowing.
Tv turns on , News anchor talking, "And today's story.... A Special on Cheese... “
3- Make a list of video shots needed
(will come, scanning documents)
Anchorman Scene
(theme song)
Main voice: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, tonight we will be talking about a very alarming story involving a very cheesy situation.
Coming up now, our anchorman, Jeremy Stoyze.
“Here we have our top anchorman with tonight’s story”
(theme song )
change voice-
News Anchor: “Last night, what started out to be a casual dinner for four friends, ended up turning into a psychedelic nightmare. Four young adults tragically lost their minds while eating cheese. You heard me, cheese! The cheese was bought at Slow Foods and doctors found out that it was soaked in LSD!
The amount of LSD their bodies had to intake was too much for them, and right now they are institutionalized in the Mental Hospital of York. Tune in because coming up next is exclusive first hand footage of how it all went wrong!”

~FLASH BACK~
Kitchen Scene
hanging out normally in kitchen, cheese on the table
woman #1: “I’m so happy we’re getting to hang out guys, I’ve missed you all so much! Spring break was so boring without you all!”
man #1: “Yeah, I agree! I’m so excited to try this imported cheese I found at Slow Foods today. They said it was one of the best kinds they had in stock!”
woman #2: “ I brought my camera so that we can register this moment! We never hang out anymore so I figured I’d film this so we can relive our college days whenever we want to! Now, what are we waiting for? Lets try this cheese!”
eating cheese , close up of face, cheese falling out of mouth + drooling
woman #1: “Dude this is a-ma-ziiing”
man #1: “Yeah!! I told you it’d taste good! Can you cut me another piece?”
Camera angle shifts to looking down at cheese, food spitting from mouth:
woman #2: “I think this is like the best cheese I’ve ever had in my entire life. Dude, you gotta try this!!”
woman #3: “Ahhh I usually don’t eat cheese, but I’ll make an exception!”
woman #3: “WOW, this really IS good.”
All together: “mmmmmmmmmmmmm”
*Sign: (2 hours later)*
everyone slumping around chairs, original viewpoint from stationary camera
waking up, drooling and shaking…
Man: “Woooaah what happened”
everyone starting to walk around very crazy, mystified, disoriented.
Woman #2: “Wow… What’s going on?”
standing up, starting to move around
Woman #1: “where are we??”
Woman #3: “I don’t know, but it’s getting kinda cold.”
Man : “Maybe we should turn this on and it’ll generate some heat!! Then we’ll be saved!!”
turning on stove
Woman #3: “Woah! Good idea!”
All of a sudden suitemate comes out
Suitemate: “What’s going on here? Are you guys okay?
Woman #2: “Who is that?? Who’s talking to me?”
Woman #1: “I don’t know, but I seem to recognize the voice from somewhere.”
Suitemate: “Guys it’s me! Cassandra, you’re suitemate!”
Man : “Maybe it’s someone who broke into your suite or something”
Suitemate: “That’s it! I’m calling 911! (dials 911) You’re all shivering and acting weird! AND WHY IS THE STOVE ON???”
looking at camera
Suitemate: “What’s this? Why is there a camera here?? I’m turning this off.”
walks towards camera, hand covering it- off.

EXIT THRU THE GIFT SHOP
Art is still for rich people
\\if you're an artist- you're retarded .\\
He's so self centered
what is the amount of publicity needed? im so not into that.. but everyone else is... all about selling art if you want to BE an artist/ ?
thats so fucked up. he just went to it so fast- maybe I'm just jealous.... "his art might look just like everyone else's'"
but his art is pop culture? who is right?
"the ultimate validation is measured in dollars and cents."
Are we supposed to not like this guy?
Every artist has to grow as an artist... a lot to take in. He did it so quickly
Is it like everyone should do art? everyone should? or really only certain people? is that subjective? or the right of life and reason? Who actually needs to be the artists? what do you have to give/communicate? something popular is not always best///// ¿ //
| 'Mockery' | 'mockery as an art form' |
fake:
the phone calls the shots of getting ready for the show// because these things were not filmed earlier// unless this is real footage? That's what I don't get- How we can tell if something is fake// are we making a totally fake documentary/?
what types of topics?
How would they get the guy to consent to a film that was kind of making fun of him?
unless they weren't.. or it's footage from somewhere else. ? does anyone know? (comment!)
who ever wants to be the artist can call it art/ art is the frame of mind/ the maker of the piece// perhaps a woodworker, makes it.. but is the same emotional level as a cabinet to them as it is their customer..?
On a personal level, my dad works with a lot of artists such as Tracey Emin or Ivan Navarro (installation at Madison Sq Park right now actually, the water towers). As I learn about art and become surrounded with art I find myself asking the question 'who is the artist?' The one who fabricates the piece or fabricates the idea? Think about Jeff Koons too, who has factories of artists working on his pieces for publication. Or even in the commercial world, for Fashion As Art, the designer is the one designing the piece but not aways sewing it? why are we learning to sew then? The artists who have all the money are the ones who make it big... is this true/ or is it sad..
WHERE IS THE LINE? WHO DRAWS THE LINE? WHY CANT WE SEE THE LINE?

Animation Drawing-||||||||\--
Hand drawn animation in film style:
A good explanation:
I found this project particularly difficult. Personally, just because I don't really like to draw. I draw a lot, just not in an order or a mapped out sense. I promised myself that for this project I would not change my idea. I got really bored with my idea... ((more to come))

Sound Piece: Practicing With Sound
Noise is a term often used to refer to an unwanted sound. In science and engineering, noise is an undesirable component that obscures a wanted signal.
What about sound in art?
